THE MTHS CLASS OF 1964 “BULLDOGS FOREVER”
Welcome to Our Class of 1964 Website
Sixty years ago one of the greatest graduating classes from one of America’s great high schools left the security of the classroom to face the world. This website documents the story of the class and celebrates the lives of class members in pictures and prose. It is intended to inspire young African American students who follow in our footsteps and to rekindle our own pleasant memories of times past. We dedicate this site to the memory of our classmates and teachers who have passed from this life as well as those who will pass in the future, and to the enduring principles of character and leadership that guided us . We trust those principles will also guide the generations who succeed us.
Manual Training High School – Gone But Not Forgotten – A Plaque To Celebrate Greatness
Manual Training High School was one of the first three high schools established in Oklahoma for the education of Black children. Over 5000 students graduated during its sixty years of service before it merged with the majority white Central High School in 1970. The school building no longer bears the MTHS name, but the Class of 1964 was determined to preserve the memory of the building’s renowned history. To that end, the Class led a drive to place a bronze plaque on the renamed building that recounts the glorious history of Manual Training High School for all to remember.
